How I teach
I teach Survey of Art History (1303 and 1304) and studio classes (Drawing, Painting, and Design). In all my class I include information regarding contemporary practices and issues in art today in my lectures. I have a background in theatre therefore I think of myself as a performer when I lecture. It is my goal to engage the student visually with my PowerPoint presentations and stimulate discussion and engagement with my talk on the PowerPoint topic. As a studio instructor I focus on demonstrating concepts & technique by drawing or painting in front of the class, hands on teaching, working individually with students, and giving constructive criticism. I illustrate the technical and expressive aspects of various media by showing examples of my own work, and the work of other artists. I encourage students to participate in group discussions and critiques.
Information about me
I am a practicing artist. My commitment to my studio practice I hope serves as an inspiration to students. It is important to me to constantly be investigating and researching my own issues and themes in my artwork. I maintain an exhibition schedule and share my artistic activities with my students. Making art is not my hobby, it is not secondary to teaching – the creation of art is my way of life and goes hand-in-hand with breathing.
