El Centro College Arts and Sciences Division

I enjoy teaching in the several types of classroom environments that El Centro has to offer. I believe it is crucial to utilize different teaching philosophies depending on the format of the class. For example, in traditional art lecture courses I believe it is important to study history in both art and social contexts, formal elements of art, and the process of making art, ultimately applying them to our daily interactions and opinions of visual athstetics. I employ the same philosophy with internet courses using a mixture of video, audio lectures, web interactive art projects, and pre-scheduled museum visits. In studio classes I help students explore traditional media techniques, new media/computer techniques, and experimental/conceptual approaches for self expression. I also believe an academic approach to studio courses using slide lectures, demonstrations, and handouts, gives students a well rounded experience when participating in a studio environment.

I am an active exhibiting artist in the DFW area participating in solo and group exhibitions. I utilize both new media/digital techniques and traditional approaches in my own work. I also participate in several college art- organizations and several community organizations in the metroplex.
