How I teach
My classroom requires engagement and participation from all students. I oversee and coordinate discussion based on the reading assignments and lecture material. Sometimes this discussion is simply Q&A; at other times, we have a more sustained conversation about the course’s themes and their relation to current events. Lectures account for approximately 60% of class time and always are supplemented with multimedia presentations.
Online
My eCampus section is conducted similar to an online book club. Thematic discussions are organized on the discussion board. In addition to the required textbooks, links to online supplemental material are included. Example of such material consist of YouTube videos, PowerPoint slideshows, podcasts, Google Maps, and our supplemental MySpace page. The online section requires enough maturity to manage one’s time and reading load to complete the course successfully.
Information about me
I am currently completing the Ph.D. in history of ideas, concentrating on continental philosophy, philosophy of language, theories of aesthetics, translation theory, and postmodernism. My academic background is primarily in Central European studies and the twentieth century. My hobbies include music, digital photography, film, and travel.
