Course Substitution Process
Using previously taken credit courses for Conflict Management Specialist Certificate
If you have taken any college credit course whose course title does NOT begin
with the letters DRCM and you want those courses to count toward the Conflict Management Specialist you must apply for a course substitution. The procedure is much simpler if you have taken the courses at either El Centro College or North Lake College.
Procedures
- Go in person to the El Centro College Counseling Division on the first floor of "A" Building. It always helps if you know your Student ID throughout this process.
- NOTE: To save time when you go to the Counseling Division, it will be helpful if you have an unofficial copy of your degree plan. Please click here for instructions for getting a Degree Plan..
- Even though you may already have a degree, in order to receive the Conflict Management Specialist Certificate at El Centro College, you need to work with a counselor or academic advisor to complete a DEGREE PLAN.
- You and the counselor will complete a course substitution form listing the courses you want to substitute for our Certificate (DRCM) courses
- For example, if you completed SOCI 2373 (Introduction to Mediation) at El Centro College or Northlake College you must complete a course substitution form to get credit for that course as DRCM 1372 - 4 courses may be listed on each form
- If you completed a course that you believe to be equivalent to one of our Certificate courses you will have to provide a transcript and a catalog description of that course from the other institution
- These forms will be sent to the Arts and Sciences Division Dean who will make a determination about the acceptability of the course substitution.
